Yesterday I covered a story about a potential sequel or spiritual sequel to LA Noire, a crime-thriller set in the 1940s published in 2011 by Rockstar.
Here’s what happened: an Australian musician made a few Instagram posts showing recording sessions which she described as being for a new game “from the creators of LA Noire” titled Sowden House. The name is important as it references the infamous Black Dahlia murder which featured heavily in LA Noire. The posts were taken down though, leaving fans to speculate about the nature of the project. Some thought it could be a proper sequel, whiles others pondered the idea that it would be a spiritual follow-up from former LA Noire developers.
That brings us to now. Video Game Deluxe – previously known as Team Bondi, the studio that created LA Noire – has issued a statement on LinkedIn clarifying what was posted by the musician.
“We are working exclusively on projects for Rockstar,” said Video Game Deluxe. “We commissioned some music from a local composer Freyja Garbett for a VR project that we were working on a number of years ago when between projects. It is based on a case from LA Noire that did not make the cut but was more of a tech demo than anything else. We have no idea whether this will ever see the light of day but we decided to finish the score commission to support a local composer.”
It is, of course, possible that Video Game Deluxe is working on a true LA Noire sequel, but it doesn’t seem likely as Rockstar have not shown much interest in it over the years.
