Space Marine 2 On PS5 Pro Uses PSSR To a Similar Standard To Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Digital Foundry has put Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II under the microscope to see how it measures up on the PS5 Pro, and the results are solid, with the game’s implementation of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to a similar level of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

According to the report, the use of PSSR has allowed Space Marine II to function much cleaner and clearer when running at 60 FPS, while in terms of raw resolution, it is enhanced from 720p to 1080p with FSR2 on the standard PS5 and 1080p-1440p reconstructed to 4K using PSSR.

While it notes that the base PS5 version holds up quite well in static shots, PS5 Pro offers a crisper picture and when in motion excels at dense jungle areas, offering crisper outlines whereas before they were blurred and mushy.

PS5 Pro’s ability to both generate more pixels – 1080p minimum, compared to a nadir of 720p on on base console – and to upscale it more intelligently allows for a huge improvement. From the grass, mud and mulch on the floor to the detailing on reflections and the metallic grates of a battle barge, all elements benefit from the move to PSSR.

PS5 Pro support was added to the Saber Interactive-developed title earlier this month, offering significant improvements in resolution and frame rate. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II was released for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in September 2025, and you can have a read of our full review here.
