PUBG players praise spooky new addition: ‘It’s like suddenly, everyone’s playing a completely different game’

A new weather effect on one of PUBG’s maps that was added in a recent update went under the radar, but players seem to really be loving it.

A creepy fog effect has been added to Vikendi, as spotted by one Reddit user, who said it looked like “Vaseline smeared all over my screen.” I don’t know much about lubricants, but it seems as though most players in the replies are having a blast with the spooky, filter-like viewing experience. The discussion of the game’s dynamic weather feature was sparked in the Sept. 5 Reddit thread, and players chimed in with mostly positive responses to how each game can feel completely different, with the game’s weather running the gamut.

“I gotta say, the dynamic weather in PUBG is one of the coolest features they’ve added,” an enthusiastic player said. “It’s like suddenly, everyone’s playing a completely different game. It’s not just wide-open spaces anymore where snipers are picking people off from a mile away. Now, those long-range shots are tough to land, and it forces everyone to adapt, get closer, and think twice before exposing themselves. Plus, it’s a real-world condition that would absolutely impact any kind of battle royale situation.”

The seemingly new fog is just one of many kinds of instances within PUBG that will effect the weather at the location from game to game. Possible weather scenarios include rain, sunset, fog, snow, daylight, night time, and more.

“I had an absolutely EPIC lightning storm on Taego last night, insane sound design and the flashes putting everything into stark contrast while fighting our way in was so cool!” another gamer replied.

Not only that, but the weather will change sometimes during the match, leading to randomly generated situations such as endgame circles in a rain storm. It’s a neat little wrinkle that sets PUBG apart from some other battle royale games in the genre it helped foster.
