Astro Bot is arguably the most anticipated game for PS5 players this year, and that anticipation and excitement level was raised with the reveal of a new Astro Bot DualSense controller.
The controller was announced little more than a week ago, with pre-orders set to go live today, August 9. Pre-orders did indeed go live today on the PlayStation Direct store, Amazon and other retailers, and it was sold out within minutes.
Not a huge surprise, considering that it’s been the case for the last four years that anything remotely tech or gaming related, especially anything PlayStation related, will be a hot ticket item – not just because fans and players will want to buy these devices – but because scalpers are looking to resell these limited edition items for a premium.
It feels like some scalpers just work on auto-pilot for these things now. Of course people buying up all the stock of a limited edition item to sell it for a profit isn’t anything new, but in the last four years specifically, ever since it was nigh impossible to get a PS5 and any bit of current-gen console hardware, PlayStation and all things video games seem to be specifically targeted.
If you’re really, really keen on getting an Astro Bot controller, then there are sellers on eBay already posting pre-orders for double the price of the actual controller. Not everyone is that egregious, but it’s about where most people sit.
The controller will likely have a bit more of a run when it launches alongside the game on September 6, 2024, so you will get another chance if you missed yours today.
