There was a time when Naughty Dog was undoubtedly the jewel studio in PlayStation’s family of first-party development teams. But since the studio’s output of actually brand new games has been paused four years ago, things have changed in the heart of players.
Insomniac Games has definitely taken the crown since, but perhaps hearts and minds could begin to be swayed, if we could even know something, anything, about what’s to come from the studio.
Naughty Dog has been practically silent about what they have coming down the pipeline, but according to studio boss Neil Druckmann that’s not the studio’s fault.
It’s parent Sony keeping a lid on what’s coming from The Last Of Us studio, who’ve not released a game outside that franchise since 2013.
Spotted by TheGamePost, in a panel video with Ken Levine, Druckmann spoke a bit about what the studio has coming, and admits that while he has full creative control, it’s Sony that has the lock on when he and the rest of the studio can talk about it.
Though he did add that this particular project has been in the works since 2020, so presumably right after The Last Of Us Part II launched on PS4.
So four years in and still no word, but that means we could be about a year (or hopefully less) away from hearing about it. Come on Sony, let Naughty Dog speak up.
