Mark Meer, the voice actor behind the male version of Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, isn’t bothered if you’ve chosen to play through the game as the female incarnation of the character, since you’ll hear his work as many of the game’s NPCs as it is.
Speaking with PCGamer, Meer also heaped praised on FemShep voice actress Jennifer Hale, stating that when fans tell him they’ve only played as ‘his’ version of Shepard, he responds “why are you denying yourself the excellent voice performance of Jennifer Hale?”
Aside from that, Meer noted that his voice work still pops up in Mass Effect through numerous NPC: “I’m afraid you’ll be forced to encounter me as Nifty Cal and Blasto and any vorcha you run into and various other things in the game.”

The male version of Commander Shepard is the most popular choice for players in Mass Effect, although the female version has a lot of fans too. In fact, it’s worth playing through the trilogy as both just to experience all the difference romances and character interactions available to you.
BioWare is currently working on a brand new Mass Effect game, although there’s no details available on it yet and a release date is probably years off.
