Fallout 4 free next-gen update arriving this month – WGB

Published:

After nearly a year and a half, the free “next-gen” update for Fallout 4 is finally being released on April 25.

The update was initially revealed in October 2022 as part of the 25th anniversary celebration for the original Fallout. The launch was slated for 2023 but after never appearing it was pushed back until 2024, with many people speculating that it was deliberately pushed back so that it could be launched alongside the new Fallout show on Amazon Prime Video.

The update is intended to improve the base game in several ways, including bringing the game to Xbox Series S/X and PS5 natively. Performance and Quality modes are highlighted by Bethesda, enabling up to 60fps at increased resolutions. It’s unclear what each mode will offer just yet. Presumably, 60fps will be locked to the Performance mode, although it would be nice to think that a nearly decade-old game would be able to get 60fps and graphical upgrades without having to sacrifice one or the other.

PS4 and Xbox One owners won’t get left out, either – a bunch of stability improvements, login and quest fixes are included in the update for everyone.

PC players are getting their own version of the update, including support for widescreen and ultra-widescreen. Fallout 4 will also be available on the Epic Games Store, and will be Steam Deck Verified.

Whatever platform you play Fallout 4 on, you’ll also get a fun selection of new content. Here’s the breakdown courtesy of Bethesda:

Enclave Remnants

Enclave Remnants brings the Pre-War cabal, The Enclave, into the Fallout 4 storyline. In this new quest, “Echoes of the Past,” can you stop The Enclave from spreading their dangerous ideology and gaining a foothold in the Commonwealth?

Along with workshop items and the Enclave Colonel uniform, we are including the following previously released Creation Club content:

  • Enclave Weapon Skins
  • Enclave Armor Skins
  • Tesla Cannon
  • Hellfire Power Armor
  • X-02 Power Armor
  • Heavy Incinerator

Makeshift Weapon Pack

Ever thought a piggy bank would make a great weapon in a pinch? This weapon pack includes a variety of unconventional objects that have been transformed into deadly weapons, such as: a baseball launcher, a nail gun and a piggy bank.

Halloween Workshop

Leftover from an ill-fated Halloween party, thrown by the New England Technocrat Society, these 38 new Halloween decorations include witches, cauldrons, ghouls and more! Decorate for Halloween or make your settlements spooky all year round!
