Braid Anniversary Edition Sales “Have Been Terrible,” Says Creator Jonathan Blow

Published:

When Braid released all the way back in 2008, it was a seminal game and arguably a catalyst for a wave of focus on indie games that hasn’t stopped since.

Earlier this year, developed Thelka published a full remake with Braid: Anniversary Edition, with a slew of visual enhancements and quality of life updates intended to make the experience of playing Braid smooth for modern audiences while familiar to the original.

Critics praised the anniversary edition (we here at PSU particularly loved it) and while players who jumped in certainly didn’t seem to have any complaints, the issue that creator Jonathan Blow is having post-Anniversary Edition launch is that not very many people seem to be jumping in at all.

Sales of the new edition “have been terrible,” Blow said while livestreaming. A compilation video for each update Blow gave on sales of the game made by Blow Fan shows how Blow responded when fans asked him about sales.

It begins normally, with Blow saying that it is “too early” to judge when it is less than a week from launch, but it quickly goes downhill from there.

He even goes as far to say that the sales have been “dog s***.” You can check out the video for yourself, below.

What’s most upsetting about all this is that according to Blow, the future of the studio Thelka is “uncertain” due to the low sales.
