Helldivers 2 players have been fighting for democracy and Super Earth against the Automatons, and the Terminids. It’s been a war on two fronts so far – but now it looks like developer Arrowhead is teasing that a new, third faction is about to rise.
After a purple coloured region appeared on the war map for multiple players, the team responded to the reports as nothing more than a glitch, dancing in tune with the whole meta-narrative of the game’s lore, saying “Some Helldivers may have noticed a recent service outage in the Major Order Communication Display. This issue has since been resolved.”
It seems like Joel is up to new antics.
Arrowhead chief executive officer Shams Jorjani responded to players posting about the region as “Fake news,” which falls right in line with the kind of denying we’ve seen from the studio before with the flying bugs for example.
The running rumour is that these are teases for the highly-anticipated Illuminate faction to join the fight. It’s worth noting that while Arrowhead could of course make the news official tomorrow if it wanted through some new lore-excuse, there’s also reportedly a State Of Play event happening this month.
Seeing as how Helldivers 2 has arguably been PlayStation’s biggest game of the year so far, it wouldn’t be a shock to see something big like a third enemy faction be announced at that kind of event.
