The absurdly cute Astro Bot is apparently gearing up for a new game announcement within the next two weeks.
That’s what the extremely reliable PlayStation leaker Billbil-kun, anyway. Writing on the French website Dealabs Magazine, Billbil-kun claims to have gotten exclusive information about the existence of a new Astro Bot game.
Billbil-kun says the new game will simply be called Astro Bot and is due to be reveal within the next few weeks. Interestingly, some sort of PlayStation event, either a Showcase or a State of Play, has been repeatedly reported to be taking place by the end of the month.
Billbil-kun also points toward another article he wrote just days ago in which he revealed a new Days of Play sale will kickoff at the end of the month. These sales typically coincide with a PlayStation event. But more importantly for this story, Billbil-kun says that shortly after that he stumbled across a publicly visible promo image for the sale, which was quickly removed, and it featured none other than Astro himself.
Now, this bit is my own speculation: if Astro is depicted on the promo image Days of Play, could that potentially indicate that will not only be announced but potentially released within the next few weeks? I don’t think that’s the case, but I think it’s worth at least considering.
Billbil-kun also reveals a few snippets of information. First, one of the environments will be a desert, and second, one of the new characters will be a robotic fennec fox.
Of course, we last saw Astro in Astro’s Playroom, a fantastic game that comes loaded onto every PS5. While it was mostly a tech demo for the PS5’s DualSense controller’s capabilities, it was also a surprisingly excellent little platfomer that people loved.
I adored that game, and really hope this new information is true because Astro has the potential to become a star. Billbil-kun is typically a very reliable source, so I’m cautiously optimistic that we’ll be seeing the cute little robot very soon.
