Yesterday, Arrowhead Studios released its first batch of Helldivers 2 x Killzone items in its in-game Superstore. Excitement for the long-dormant franchises comeback was brief as the price for these items were criticized by fans. Following backlash, the studio has decided the previously announced second batch of Killzone content will be free.
When does the next half of the Helldivers 2 x Killzone crossover release?
Initially, the second half of the Helldivers 2 x Killzone crossover was scheduled for a December 23, 2024 release. However, its controversial pricing for the first batch of items seems to have changed Arrowhead Studios’ plans. The second half is available today in the Superstore for free and will be distributed in two waves. Additionally, the duration of the current Superstore items will increase from five days to 10.
As mentioned, the reasoning behind the change is its initial pricing. If a player wanted to purchase all of the first items, it would cost around $20. As the game’s seasonal Warbonds include several more items for half the price, this sparked criticism from the fans. The studio states they are “investigating solutions for how we can bring these items back permanently in the future.”
“In the spirit of the holidays, and based on your feedback, we have decided to give away the next half of the Killzone + Helldivers 2 collab away for free for everyone,” says Arrowhead Studios CCO Johan Pilestedt. “Happy holidays from Arrowhead and our friends at Guerrilla.”
When the Helldivers 2 x Killzone collab’s controversial price started to spread across the internet, some players began criticizing publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment for the price. However, Arrowhead Studios did confirm that it was their decision.
Players questioned why the Killzone content wasn’t included in its own Warbond. Pilestedt explained they believed “a higher priced Warbond would carry negative sentiment.”
