Ubisoft Responds After Leaked Images Point To Assassin’s Creed Shadows Including Free Battle Pass Rewards

Published:

Assassin’s Creed Shadows would already be out for people to play and enjoy in another timeline, but in this one it was delayed into February 2025. So we still have a lot of questions about the full release.

One question nobody had though, was whether or not it’ll feature a battle pass system. Well, some leaked photos (as spotted by Eurogamer) seemed to answer the question that no one asked, confirming that there will be a battle pass that has free rewards for players completing challenges (as is the battle pass way).

These rewards are cosmetic-based as you might expect, but a battle pass for a single-player game confused plenty of players, and had many worrying about what the paid version of this battle pass might look like, what it would cost, and what it would mean for the future structure of Assassin’s Creed titles.

Ubisoft have since put out a statement regarding the leaked photos though didn’t address them as such, and instead referred only to the narrative players were spinning in their heads and keyboards after seeing the images.

“Hello everyone. It has come to our attention that inaccurate rumours have been circulating online regarding the upcoming Animus Hub (ex-codename Infinity),” the statement on the official Assassin’s Creed Reddit reads.

“We wanted to clarify that:

  • All the rewards available in the Animus Hub will be entirely free.
  • There are no paid subscriptions or paid battle pass featured in the Animus Hub.
  • Players will have access to regular content and missions at no extra cost.

We will unveil more details about it closer to the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Thank you!”

While it’s nice to know there aren’t any paid battle passes featured, the statement doesn’t deny the existence of a free battle pass, and seems to even confirm it by confirming that there will be “free rewards” available for players.

Ubisoft has also removed the leaked images that were appearing on Reddit, which does add an air of legitimacy to them if you were still unsure about this being real.

Seems like the images were real, but as Ubisoft clarifies they do not mean a paid battle pass is coming. Still, it’s worth asking why what seems to be a single-player experience needs a hub-world attached to it with a battle pass, free or not.
