Inflexion Games, the studio behind Nightingale is the latest to announce layoffs as the studio’s UK office shuts down, and lays off its staff.
The Tencent-owned team announced the news in a post on the game’s official Twitter account, with a statement from chief executive officer Aaryn Flynn that cites the “stark realities of the industry” as to why the decision to enact layoffs was made.
Flynn also simply states the obvious reason, that Nightingale hasn’t sold enough to keep everyone and the building lights on.
What’s key for players to note though is that this isn’t the end for the game, Nightingale, which will still continue its development in Early Access.
“The past few weeks here at Inflexion Games have been incredibly challenging, and no words can adequately express the sadness we feel,” Flynn began.
“Like many other studios over the pas few years, we have been hit by the stark realities of the industry, and after exploring every possible option, we’ve had to make teh difficult decision to let go of some of our remarkable and talented team members.”
“Although we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished with Nightingale to date – as well as the enthusiasm and support from our community – the Early Access release hasn’t been commercially successful enough to continue development at our studio’s previous size.”
“As a result, we’re undergoing a restructuring in Canada, and we will also be closing out UK office.”
Flynn goes on to say that helping those impacted and supporting them is paramount right now, and gives them all a big “thank you” for their work.
He also reiterates that the studio hasn’t wavered in its commitment to the players, and that those still at Inflexion “will continue to work tirelessly” for players as the company moves forward.
As it always is every time more layoffs are announced, its upsetting to see more developers lose their job. Hopefully they all land on their feet.
