Crystal Dynamics Announces The Tomb Raider Franchise Has Eclipsed 100 Million Copies Sold

Published:

Tomb Raider is one of the biggest franchises in games, and if you’re BAFTA, then Lara Croft is also the most iconic video game character (though that’s surely debatable if you’re not a British awards organization).

Regardless, the success and reach of the franchise cannot be denied, proven further by the fact that Crystal Dynamics has announced that the franchise has officially eclipsed 100 million copies sold as it celebrates its 28th anniversary.

We’re so honored to share a huge milestone for Tomb Raider – we have officially reached over 100 million games sold across the franchise!” the studio announced in a post from its official Twitter account.

The actual anniversary will be on October 25, but the announcement is coming now because as Crystal Dynamics says in a longer blog post, “we’re starting our celebration a little early this year because there’s just so much to talk about!”

Like today’s earlier announcement about Tomb Raider Remastered IV-VI. The rest of Crystal Dynamic’s blog talks about the various collaborations involving Lara Croft, though there’s an absence felt by the lack of any mention of what the next modern game in the franchise will be.

Perhaps similarly to Creative Assembly’s announcement for Alien: Isolation 2, we’ll hear more on the actual day of the anniversary.
