Fear Effect, the classic PSOne adventure game developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment, is coming to PS5, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch in 2025, Limited Run Games and Square Enix have announced.
A lost classic finally returns. Fear Effect challenged assumptions on game aesthetics and art style when it debuted on PlayStation, and decades later its extraordinary blend of cell-shading and motion video still dazzles the eye… and the mind. Fear Effect originally launched in February 2000 for the PSOne and was quite innovative for its time, as it simulated cel-shaded visuals by utilising unshaded characters and textures. In addition, it employed full-motion video environments instead of pre-rendered backgrounds, a technique that resulted in the game taking up four discs.
A prequel followed in 2001 for PSOne titled Fear Effect: Retro Helix.
