No, Minecraft isn’t getting replaced any time soon! But 4J Studios, the developer known for porting Minecraft to consoles and handhelds, has revealed its own Voxel Game Engine that will be used for an unknown, upcoming game. While the engine does not shy away from curves, it is very much cubic.
Engine trailer
The reveal trailer shows smooth, real-time footage with massive destructible terrain, maps and cityscapes, water physics, model birds and beyond. Watch it here: Introducing… the Elements Engine – YouTube
I joined the Discord linked in their description, but there’s no secret updates there yet…
Commenter and Spanish Minecraft creator SpanerMC noted many references to 4J’s past work in the trailer: 0:24 TU19 Tutorial World Castle, 0:37 Egyptian Mythology Mash-Up, 0:42 Minecraft City Texture Pack 1, 0:50 Minecraft City Texture Pack 2 (V&A).
4J and stampy
MR STAMPYCAT (stampylonghead) has revealed that he is working with 4J Studios on the secret game: Since January, I’ve been working with @4jstudiosltd to help them develop a new game! There is a sneak peak. This change coincides with the end of Stampy’s Lovely World at the end of 2023 (BBC said it!).
